About the TRHSI
The TRHSI was announced in April 2026 as part of a broader overhaul of the BCPNP to target healthcare-sector recruitment. It is open to foreign nationals with a full-time job offer from a B.C. public health authority in a qualifying rural or remote location, working in one of three eligible occupations: NOC 65312 (janitors, caretakers, heavy-duty cleaners), NOC 65310 (light-duty cleaners) or NOC 64410 (security guards and related occupations).
Who the pathway covers
To be considered under TRHSI, candidates must:
– Have a full-time job offer from one of the eight listed B.C. public health authorities (First Nations Health Authority; Fraser Health; Interior Health; Island Health; Northern Health; Providence Health Care; Provincial Health Services Authority; Vancouver Coastal Health).
– Work in one of the eligible NOC occupations.
– Have at least nine months of full-time experience in the eligible occupation while employed by a B.C. health authority prior to registration.
– Hold a high school diploma.
– Meet the minimum income requirement throughout the nine-month qualifying period.
– Satisfy all other general Skills Immigration requirements under the BCPNP.
Geographic rules and employer support
A qualifying rural or remote area is any location outside the Central Okanagan, Metro Vancouver and Capital Regional districts, except for five named Capital Region islands (Galiano, Mayne, Pender, Salt Spring and Saturna), which are included. Note that each public health authority sets its own internal process and is not required to support BCPNP applications; employer support is a key gating factor.
What the extension changes
The extension gives candidates more time to register but does not change program conditions or the nomination cap of up to 250 workers. It can help applicants affected by wildfire disruptions to complete their registrations, but meeting eligibility does not guarantee a nomination.
